A term of office is for a maximum of three years, and Governors may stand for three terms of office. Governors are eligible to stand for election or appointment as a Governor again following a break of at least one year. For the 2017 elections, Governors are known as Transitional Period Governors whose terms of office are either a two or three year term; this was managed by the number of votes for each respective candidate so that those with a majority will serve three years. This approach will enable the staggering of future elections which will help with maintaining experience on the Council.
