As a Governor I hope to contribute to an improving and sustainable health provision for the local community in Essex and to ensure that the needs of unpaid Carers are recognised and responded to in service planning and delivery.
I have substantial experience of organisational management in the not-for-profit sector including strategic planning, quality improvement and service user engagement.
I have been the Chief Executive Officer at Action for Family Carers since 2011. During this time the charity has expanded its provision countywide to become the leading Essex charity supporting unpaid Carers including Young Carers. In 2017 Action for Family Carers became only the 4th charity in the UK to gain the PQASSO Quality Mark at Level 3, the highest level possible.
I was previously a Director at East London Citizens Advice Bureaux, a UN volunteer in St Helena and a VSO volunteer in Cambodia – both of these voluntary roles were in the disability sector – and prior to that I was a manager of careers/Connexions services in Westminster and Lambeth in central London. I live with my wife and two young children in Maldon, Essex.
I will bring to the governor role a strong focus on quality and on ensuring that attention is paid to the needs of vulnerable and marginalised groups
