Reducing Restrictive Practice

A report was written collaborative with patients outlining EPUT’s Secure Services journey to reduce its use of restrictive practices. We took a ‘simple’ approach’, asking the same 5 questions of patients and staff, listening to their views and incorporating this in our journey to establish understanding and engagement for a safer environment.

The purpose of the report is to share our successes, and show the improvements we have made towards achieving a safer environment. Feedback consistently suggests that were a restrictive intervention is used this is only as a last resort. Central to this success is developing trust between patients and staff, and building meaningful relationships. We are now collaboratively paving “the way for a better future.”
