Starting with diagnostic evaluations to the formulation of  bio-psychosocial management plans that include pharmacological interventions, different psychotherapy modalities and social care and support; their roles continue with ongoing monitoring of care and progress and by making adjustments to the treatment plans as needed.

Our psychiatrists specialize in diagnosing, treating, and preventing mental health conditions. They are qualified to prescribe medication and provide therapy and:
• Assess patients’ mental health needs and develop treatment plans
• Prescribe medication
• Provide therapy and counselling.
• Work with other healthcare professionals to provide a comprehensive care package for patients
• Educate patients and their families about mental health
• Conduct research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions.

If you are looking for more educational opportunities.  You will be able to teach doctors across all training levels including medical students. You will be able to teach doctors across all training levels, starting with medical students. Also, we host foundation year doctors, GP trainees, CT doctors and ST doctors, with different educational needs throughout their training, which you can be involved in!

If you are more interested in research, EPUT also has an excellent research department that helps doctors achieve their own research goals and is available to guide doctors through the different stages of their projects. In addition, we also have a strong audit team, and we regularly take part in local and national audits, which is both valuable for service improvement and training.

The expertise and weight of your overseas psychiatric training are very valuable to us. We aim to elevate your career further and support your IMG progress in the UK. Whatever you aim to achieve as a professional – a training post or a consultant post via CESR, we have a dedicated team to support you through every step of your journey.

Our Trust was one of the first few mental health trusts to be approved by the General Medical Council (GMC) to sponsor an international programme.

The scheme was launched in June 2021 and 33 doctors have so far been appointed from a wide range of countries, including Egypt, India, Sudan, Nepal, Nigeria and Pakistan.

There are currently 29 working across the Trust, and many attended their first in person engagement event on Friday 12 January to reflect on their personal experiences and find out more about training and development opportunities.

  • A Bachelor in Medicine, Surgery, or equivalent medical qualification
  • Registered with the General Medical Council and for Consultant positions also be on the Specialist Register
  • Careers grade positions, you will need Section 12 (2) Approval or intention to obtain one
  • For Consultant positions, you will also need to be on the Specialist Register and have Approved Clinician Status, or be in the process registering.
