New Covid-19 pop up vaccination centres being set up as booster rollout ramps upDecember 15, 2021
As you will have seen from the news it is becoming clear that the Omicron variant is spreading really quickly and in London and the south east infection rates are doubling every day. Omicron is expected to become the dominant variant of Covid-19 within days.
Due to the high rates of infections and the potential impact this will have on the NHS, business and families, the NHS has been asked to step up vaccinations as this is seen to be the defence against the virus. Early data shows a third booster dose prevents about 75% of people from getting any severe Covid symptoms from Omicron.
NHS services now offer every adult over the age of 18 the chance to book a Covid-19 booster vaccine in a race to protect the nation against the Omicron variant.
As part of our significant commitment, EPUT, as a lead vaccination provider, is increasing capacity to provide more vaccinations to our local population. EPUT is opening two new centres in the Chelmsford area as part of our plan to increase vaccine capacity across Essex and Suffolk.
On Friday 17 December and Monday 20 December, people living in Chelmsford and surrounding areas of Essex will be able to visit a pop up vaccination centre at Essex County Council’s County Hall headquarters where they will be able to have their first, second, third and booster jabs between 8am and 8pm.
On Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 December, people can also have their jabs at Chelmsford City Racecourse between 8am and 8pm on both days.
Residents are advised to book in advance to guarantee your vaccination.
Nigel Leonard, Executive Director of Major Projects & Programmes at EPUT, who is co-ordinating the vaccination centres across Suffolk and North East Essex and Mid and South Essex, said: “All EPUT vaccination programme staff and volunteers are working incredibly hard to ensure we can offer as many people as possible their booster vaccination which is the most important defence against the fast growing Omicron variant.
“It’s vital we all take the opportunity we can to increase our immunity to safeguard our friends, family and community this winter and help minimise the pressure the National Health Serviceduring this busy winter period. There is clear evidence that a booster vaccine dramatically improves protection against the virus so I would urge everyone to come forward to book their booster jab as soon as possible.”
The new vaccination sessions have now been released on Eventbrite where people can pre book an appointment although there will also be a number of walk-in appointments available. We have chosen this route as we know people have experienced some recent delays with the National Booking system. Pease note our other centres have also increased capacity and you can book a more localised appointment in the normal way if you live a distance from Chelmsford.
