Money management and wellbeing workshops

Free workshops are being offered to adults who want help to better manage their finances.

Anyone aged 19 and over can take part in the two-hour sessions, which will cover topics including budgeting, credit, debt and money-related contracts.

The money management workshops will be held at libraries across Essex from this week and run throughout February and March.

Enable East - an independent NHS team that operates as part of Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust - will deliver the sessions.

John Holmes, Business Development Manager for Enable East, said: “Helping people to improve their financial knowledge has never been more important.

“We’re aiming to give people the skills and confidence to manage their personal finances, as well as offering advice to anyone who would like support to apply for jobs or training.

“We will also signpost people to services and partner organisations who can offer extra support as we know money worries can have a detrimental impact on physical and mental health.”

The workshops are funded by the Department of Education as part of the national Multiply programme, which aims to help adults improve their numeracy skills.

Essex County Council secured £7.9million from the government to deliver the Multiply programme in Essex, and Enable East successfully bid for a grant to deliver the free workshops.

Essex is ranked at 114 out of 151 local authority areas in England for numeracy skills. 51.2% of Essex adults aged 16 to 64 have an NVQ3 or above, compared to the national average of 61.5%.

The workshops will be held at the following libraries:

  • Basildon
  • Braintree
  • Canvey
  • Chelmsford
  • Clacton
  • Colchester
  • Harlow
  • Harwich
  • Maldon
  • Witham

Anyone interested can just turn up on the day of each workshop.
