Patients create an uplifting wall of empowering quotes and art

Patients at one of our inpatient mental health wards have taken part in the national Inspire Your Heart With Art Day by decorating a wall in their sensory room.

Two female patients at Galleywood Ward, based at the Linden Centre in Chelmsford, created a feature wall with a selection of quotes and pictures that made them feel empowered and to inspire future service users.

Inspire Your Heart With Art Day, which took place on 31 January, aims to remind us of the different ways art can inspire us, and how our art can inspire someone else.

Activities coordinator Kendall Blaine said: “The patients really wanted to take part in the day and do something creative to brighten up the sensory room, which is used for sensory modulation and relaxation.

“They wanted to create something that would empower them and any new service users that may come and stay on Galleywood and so decided on some powerful quotes as well as some art work.

“They spent a lot of time talking about positive things and found some really great quotes, which we printed out to create posters.

“It looks really good and the patients who created it were really pleased with how it turned out.”

The ward has had a burst of colour over the last month, with a local artist also working with staff and patients to create a colourful mural in the ward’s art room.
