Speech & Language Therapy

The Speech and Language Therapy (S&LT) Service works across the whole county providing help in both community and hospital settings. We treat children up to the age of 16 years (up to 19 years in special education), who have a difficulty with communication or swallowing.

The Service is provided in a number of ways, depending on need. This may be for example: individual or group treatment, parent/carer workshops and drop-in information clinics.

The service also undertakes a role in providing training and specialist support to parents/carers and staff working with children and young people in schools, residential units and other settings. This enables parents/carers and professionals involved with the child, to provide an appropriate level of support and input.

How to access the service

Assessment Clinics for children who are Pre-School age and younger

If your child is in pre-school or younger and you are worried about their speech, language and communication development you can come to one of our assessment clinics.  A therapist will talk through your concerns with you and carry out a brief screen with your child.  You can then make decisions together about what happens next.

Details of the assessment clinics are on the attached leaflets.  You will need to bring with you the completed ‘Assessment Clinic checklist form’.  This checklist needs to be completed by yourself and others working with your child, for example your Health Visitor, GP or Pre-School Staff. WE ARE UNABLE TO SEE YOU WITHOUT A COMPLETED CHECKLIST. The session operates on a ‘first-come, first-served’ system.

Please note there are no assessment clinics in August 2018
