Community Learning Disability Teams

Our Community Learning Disability Service provides specialist healthcare services for people with learning disabilities who are 18 years and over.

The Community Learning Disability Service is multidisciplinary and services include:-

  • Behaviour therapy
  • Medical outpatients
  • Nursing
  • Occupational therapy (not available in Thurrock)
  • Physiotherapy (not available in Thurrock)
  • Psychology
  • Speech and language therapy

It is separated into: –

Intensive Support Team
This service provides support to those who are experiencing mental disorder or challenging behaviour crisis. They aim to treat people in their own home and reduce the need for admission to hospital.

Health Facilitation Service
This service provides education and training to mainstream health providers in order to help them to make reasonable adjustments to improve access to healthcare for people with learning disabilities

Community Therapy Provision
This service provides assessment and treatment for functional difficulties, related to a diagnosis of learning disability.

This service includes Consultants specialised in Learning Disability Psychiatry and junior doctors along with medical secretaries. We work with other team members to diagnose mental health problems, behaviour disorders and epilepsy and provide treatment both for in-patients at Heath Close and in the community.
