Learning Disability Inpatient Service

Learning Disability Inpatient Services are provided for people with learning disabilities who are 18 years and over.

Byron Court is an assessment and treatment unit based in Billericay. It is commissioned for 7 beds however we are commissioned for 11 beds across Essex as part of the Essex Learning Disability Partnership, each bedroom has an en-suite shower room. We will admit people diagnosed with a learning disability who have a mental health issue as well as people with Autism/learning disability.

The unit has a seclusion room a long term segregation suite and a de-escalation area as well as areas to relax and engage in activities.  We employ 2 chefs and fresh cooked meals are provided lunch times and evenings.

The nursing team are supported by an in-patient Multi-disciplinary team based on site.

The service is provided for people who in addition or because of their learning disability have:

  • Mental illness and other mental disorders, such as autism
  • Challenging or disturbed behaviour
  • Degenerating neurological disorders which occurred during their developmental period and led to learning disabilities
