St Aubyn Centre

The St. Aubyn Centre is the only NHS Adolescent Acute and Intensive Care (AIC) unit in the south of England. It provides care for young people between the age of 13 and their 18th birthday who are experiencing acute, complex and/or severe mental health, emotional and psychological problems.

Where service is based

The St Aubyn Centre is based in Colchester and has two wards, Longview and Larkwood. It has a school which is connected with other local schools in the area so that young people who are recovering from mental illness can continue their education (if they are able to) whilst receiving treatment. The school was rated as “outstanding” by Ofsted.

Longview is for young people with a range of mental health difficulties including depression, self harm, eating disorders, severe anxiety problems, psychosis.

Larkwood ward is a secure ward providing an Adolescent Intensive Care Unit (AICU). This unit caters for a range of young people with more acute mental health difficulties.
