Dietitians recognised for work helping people with diabetes

One of our specialist community teams have been recognised for their work supporting people with diabetes.

The dietitians from the West Essex Community Nutrition and Dietetic Service offer a range of support to help people manage their health condition so they can stay well.

This includes the X-PERT Diabetes Prevention and Management education course for adults with Type 2 diabetes.  This course aims to increase participants knowledge and understanding of Type 2 diabetes to help  them make lifestyle changes to manage their health more effectively.

X-PERT Health, which put together the programme, held its annual health audit report and awards earlier this month.

The awards recognised health care teams from across the country who are delivering the course and making a positive impact on the lives of diabetes patients.

The West Essex Community Nutrition and Dietetic Service won third place in the Cardiovascular Disease Risk Reduction category.

Team Lead Dietitian Tracy Parker said: “We are excited to have received this award.

“The six week X-PERT programme offers up-to-date information about diabetes, diet and lifestyle in a relaxed and supportive group setting.

“The aim is to enable participants to make informed decisions on how best to manage their health in the long-term.

“We are proud to see that our groups have helped people make changes that have led to an improvement in other health markers, such as cholesterol and triglyceride levels, in addition to their blood glucose levels.”
