Rochford Hospital administrator completes the London Marathon

A Rochford Hospital administrator has put her best foot forward and taken part in the London Marathon to help raise money for a charity which is close to her heart.

Sian Elmy, who has worked for the Trust for ten years, ran the 26.2 mile course on 21 April for Macmillan Cancer Support, who supported her family after her mum was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Sian, who was given a place last minute, completed the marathon in five hours seven minutes.

She said: “It was such a great day and experience and I am really proud of myself for finishing it in the time I did. My legs have just about started to recover.

“The atmosphere was amazing and I was so happy to be running it to raise money for such a worthwhile charity. “

So far Sian has raised just over £1300 of her £2500 target on her Justgiving page but is hoping to raise more.

She said: “Macmillan were there from the very start and helped support not just my mum but us as a family, physically, emotionally and financially.

“We attended coffee mornings that we as a family found reassuring and it gave you a chance to talk to other families going through a similar sort of thing.

“This is now my chance to give back what I can to support the charity.”

Sian has secured a place in the ballot for next year’s London Marathon.
