Long Covid Clinic

Summary

Our long COVID clinic supports people suffering with symptoms of long COVID across Harlow, Epping and the Uttlesford. The service will carry out a comprehensive assessment, your type of assessment will depend on preference or need. Afterwards you will be given information, guidance, rehabilitation, physical and mental health support with regular follow ups to help you manage and overcome your symptoms.

  • Physiotherapist
  • Occupational therapist

Linking in with other professionals:

  • Speech and Language therapist
  • Dietician
  • VitaMinds / IAPT

Service Information

For some people, coronavirus (COVID-19) can cause symptoms that last weeks or months after the infection has gone. This is sometimes called post-COVID-19 syndrome or “long COVID”. Many people feel better in a few days or weeks and most will make a full recovery within 12 weeks. But for some people, symptoms can last longer. Some of the common symptoms of long COVID can include:

  • Extreme tiredness (fatigue)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain or tightness
  • Problems with memory and concentration (“brain fog”)
  • Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
  • Heart palpitations
  • Dizziness
  • Pins and needles
  • Joint pain

Services offered

We are a rehabilitation-based service offering advice to self-manage symptoms and make daily life feel more manageable. We liaise closely with your GP and can make onward referrals as required. Some of the services we offer include:

  • Holistic assessment and rehabilitation from our multidisciplinary team including, fatigue management, vocational rehabilitation, management of brain fog or breathlessness advice and rehabilitation
  • 9-week virtual self-management education programme
  • 4 week Breathing pattern dysfunction education programme
  • Onward referrals to other specialists services

The above treatments can be delivered over the telephone, virtually or in a clinic-based community setting.

Referral Information

We see people who have a registered GP in West Essex and are over 18 years old. Your GP will need to refer you, and they may wish to carry out tests such as bloods, heart tracing Electrocardiogram (ECG), and chest X-rays.
