A psychotherapist takes on London Marathon
A psychotherapist from Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) will take on the London Marathon next month to raise money for a charity close to her heart.
Gill Cowan, who has worked for the Trust for 15 years, is running the 26.2 mile course on 27 April to fundraise for Samaritans in memory of a member of her family.
Gill has enjoyed running for the last 16 years and has completed a number of 5k, 10k and half marathon runs for charity, but this will be the first time she has taken on a full marathon.
She said: “I feel very privileged to be given a ballot place for the London Marathon 2025 and have chosen to run for Samaritans because they are a great source of support when people need someone to listen, whatever the time of day or night. They give hope and help prevent people reaching crisis point.
“I am also running in memory of a family member who sadly took her life and know that the money I raise will really make a difference. Every step I take and pound we raise could help train more volunteers, answer more calls and, ultimately, save lives.
“I'm running to show millions of people that no matter what they are facing, a Samaritan will face it with them.”
Gill set herself a target to raise £200. She has currently raised more than £600 but hopes to raise even more - if you would like to support Gill and help her raise money for Samaritans, visit her fundraising page.
