Countdown to Christmas Day 5 - Digital dashboard enhances patient care

Mental health nurses are using a new digital dashboard to help them provide proactive care to people with the most complex needs.

The Management and Supervision Tool (MaST) uses algorithms to help them to identify people who may be at increased risk of needing support from crisis services. These could include admission to Accident and Emergency departments or inpatient care, or support from community crisis services.

The dashboard, which has been developed by Holmusk, is not designed to replace nurses' clinical expertise but helps them review information in one place to make informed, evidence-based decisions.

It has meant we have been able to intervene earlier, so people have the right support to reduce their risk of experiencing a mental health crisis.

Patients are being allocated a lead mental health practitioner faster, ensuring they receive better continuity of care.

MaST is also helping nurses to prioritise their caseloads, so that we can reach out to patients when they need us the most.

Community Mental Health Teams in Thurrock, Basildon, Brentwood, Wickford, Castle Point, Rochford and Rayleigh have been using MaST since January 2023.

Following its success, we are looking to roll MaST out more widely with teams across our services over the next year.
