Cumberlege Intermediate Care Centre has moved to Rochford Hospital
The Cumberlege Intermediate Care Centre (CICC) has been relocated from Pantile Avenue, Southend-On-Sea to Rochford Hospital.
CICC is a 22-bedded facility which provides rehabilitation services to local residents.
The ward at Rochford Hospital has been refurbished to ensure that it is suited to being an intermediate care facility and provide a high quality accommodation for patients.
The move will enable the continued development of the St Luke’s Primary Care facility at the former CICC site in Southend.
The NHS is investing £1.7million to provide new modern healthcare facilities in the St Luke’s Health Centre, ensuring it is fit-for-purpose now and into the future for local residents.
Some of the benefits of the move include:
- ground floor accommodation on an established hospital site;
- ward design that would enable improved observation;
- access for bariatric patients; improved ward design and bedrooms that enable improved self-care and rehabilitation.
Malcolm McCann, Executive Director of Community Services and Partnerships at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) said:
“The relocation of CICC to Rochford Hospital will enable the development of the St Luke’s Health Centre in Southend. We have made significant changes to the ward at Rochford Hospital so that people being rehabilitated will have access to the best facilities. We are working with NHS Southend CCG, and other partners across south east Essex, to make sure local people in St Luke’s and wider south east Essex, receive safe, high quality care, in fit-for-purpose premises. The move to Rochford Hospital is a temporary one and we will consult with the public on any proposals to find a permanent location.”
