Derwent Centre Official Opening Ceremony

The newly refurbished Derwent Centre, in Harlow for patients with acute mental illness was officially opened by Cllr Maggie Hulcoop, Chair of Harlow Council and Professor Sheila Salmon, Chair of Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) on Friday 7 September 2018.

The Derwent Centre has undergone a major refurbishment which started in 2013 by the former North Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (NEP).

The building has two wards, Stort Ward and Chelmer Ward which have both been transformed beyond recognition into a modern inpatient facility that is suitable for the needs of our patients.

In addition, there is a new reception area, new entrance, a hub and an indoor garden.

The refurbishment of the Derwent Centre is part of the Trust’s transformation plans to continually improve and develop facilities and environments that will enhance the patient experience.

Mark Madden, Executive Chief Finance Officer at EPUT said: “We have successfully completed a major refurbishment to the Derwent Centre which was originally built in the 1960s. The building has been transformed with modern fixtures and fittings to improve patient care and the environment.”
