EPUT nurses awarded Cavell Star Award

Two of our nurses have been presented with a Cavell Star Award in recognition of their hard work and dedication to patients.

The Cavell Star Awards is a national programme that celebrates the dedication of nurses, midwives, nursing associates and healthcare assistants and recognises the care they provide to patients, families, and colleagues.

Clinical Team Leads Amanda New and Tracy Burn, who work with the Epping Forest District Nursing Team, were nominated by their manager, Maria Goretti Garcia- Santos, for going above and beyond for both patients and their colleagues.

Maria said: “Both Tracy and Amanda really deserve to be awarded with the Cavell Star.

“They both always go above and beyond for patients, providing whatever is needed for their care, whether that be providing personal care, shopping to ensure their patients have enough food and drinks in their fridges or picking up medication from neighbouring towns.

“They don’t only go above and beyond for their patients; they also go out of their way to support other members of staff.

“Amanda and Tracy are a delight to work with. Congratulations to them both, they should be very proud.”

The duo’s colleagues have described them as “loyal teammates” who care when you are having a tough day and put their arms around the whole team.

They said: “Amanda and Tracy are trusty colleagues who ensure their patients are always safe, comfortable and informed.

“They go the extra mile to make certain patients’ families also feel part of the care journey.”

Tracy, who has worked for the Trust since 2013, said she was over the moon to have been nominated for the award.

She said: “I am very grateful to be receiving the award.  I look at it that I am accepting it on behalf of the fantastic team I work with.  Without such a great team of caring and committed nurses and health care support workers, we would not be able to provide exceptional support to our patients or each other.

“I work with an amazing team and each and every one of them goes over and above for each other and the patients and I feel proud to be part of this team.”

Tracy has also recently been awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse which is available to individual nurses who have demonstrated a high level of commitment to patient care and nursing practice.

Cavell Nurses’ Trust is a charity that supports UK nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants, both working and retired, when they are suffering a personal or financial crisis, often due to illness, disability, domestic abuse and rising living costs.

The award scheme was launched in 2018 and each award winner receives a medal, presentation case and pin badge.
