Anyone aged 19 and over can take part in the course, which is split into four workshops.

Budgeting and monthly finances – This workshop includes planning your monthly finances, creating a simple budget, separating luxury from essential, maximising income and reducing expenditure, and comparing ‘what I think I spend’ vs. ‘the reality’.

The relationship between money and wellbeing – This workshop focuses on creating positive relationships with money and how your finances impact on your wellbeing. Topics covered include emotional spending, not buying more than you need, minimalism, how to manage income-related anxiety and creating sensible spending habits.

Signposting session – This short session lets you know where to get further help and support.

1:1 Support Session – You can speak to your trainer about specific areas of budgeting and money-related issues you would like further help. The course is delivered by Enable East, an independent NHS team that operates as part of Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

It is part of our commitment to support our communities to thrive by helping to tackle the wider issues that affect people’s physical and mental health, such as education and employment.

The workshops are funded by the Department of Education as part of the national Multiply programme, which aims to help adults improve their numeracy skills.

Essex County Council secured £7.9million from the government to deliver the Multiply programme in Essex, and Enable East successfully bid for a grant to deliver the free workshops.

Essex is ranked at 114 out of 151 local authority areas in England for numeracy skills. 51.2% of Essex adults aged 16 to 64 have an NVQ3 or above, compared to the national average of 61.5%.
