International nurse shortlisted in the Zenith Health’s Global Health Awards 2023
An internationally educated nurse working in one of our mental health wards has been shortlisted in the Zenith Health’s Global Health Awards 2023.
Prince Adoe, who works on Gosfield Ward at The Lakes Mental Health Unit, Colchester, has been nominated for a Rising Star award.
The Rising Star award recognises up and coming healthcare professionals who demonstrate qualities of bright future and evidence of personal and professional development.
Prince has developed a training package for mental health nurses to improve their skills and knowledge of physical health care. The training supports our work to ensure patients receive personalised care for all their health needs.
Prince, who moved from Ghana to work at EPUT in June 2022, began the project during his time on the Resilience, Intelligence, Strength and Excellence (RISE) programme.
RISE is a customised talent development programme for colleagues from black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds. It is for colleagues working in any role from bands 2 to 8b and supports them to face challenges confidently, enhance their transferable skills, and develop as leaders.
Prince said: “Being nominated for this award is an incredible honour. Knowing that my hard work and dedication have been recognised in this way is truly humbling and I would like to thank the RISE leadership programme and anyone that has been instrumental in my growth.
“My physical health project was aimed at training staff in the management of physical health conditions.
“Teaching sessions have been delivered on physical health conditions that we are faced with every day on the ward that our patients have alongside mental health conditions.
“We have also developed physical health care plans that are bespoke and patient centred.”
Staff have also begun to receive training in how to carry out an electrocardiogram, which tests heart rhythms and electrical activity.
