National NHS lead visits partnership services

A national NHS lead found out how we work with partners to provide community health services for local people.

Dr Vin Diwakar, Medical Director for Secondary Care and Transformation at NHS England, recently visited our partnership services in mid and south Essex.

The Mid and South Essex Community Collaborative (MSECC) is a partnership between Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT), North East London NHS Foundation Trust and Provide Community Interest Company.

He was shown the community respiratory van, which offers spirometry tests for people who have mobility issues or live in more rural areas and cannot get to other testing sites.

Alex Lambert, from the MSECC All Aged Long Covid Team, said: “The van has been such an amazing benefit to communities, who can gain a better understanding of respiratory issues, including the signs and symptoms of long covid and how to be referred into the service for treatment. It has had such a positive impact on people.”

Dr Diwakar said: "The work that colleagues in mid and south Essex are doing with the respiratory van has considerable potential to reduce health inequalities based on the data driven approach to population health.”

He also heard about the virtual hospital, which includes the Urgent Community Response Team (UCRT), Frailty Virtual Ward and Respiratory Virtual Ward.

It supports adults aged 18 and over who have urgent and complex health and care needs.

Dr Diwakar also met Stephanie Dawe, CEO of Provide, and Ronan Fenton, medical director for The Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System.
