New Walk - In Clinic at Brentwood Resource Centre

People with mental health disorders and disabilities have a higher risk of developing poor physical health and of dying earlier compared to the general population. South Essex Partnership University Trust (SEPT) have set up a new walk in clinic in Brentwood to try and reverse this trend.

SEPT patients can walk in without prior appointment and discuss health issues including weight loss and quitting smoking. Blood Pressure checks and weight checks will also be available. There will be close communication between the clinic and local GPs to ensure that any abnormality in the routine physical check-up can urgently be investigated further by the GPs.

There are real concerns that mental health patients are not receiving optimum physical care in the community and their physical health is at risk from both the effect of the mental illness (poor motivation, increased smoking, obesity etc.) and also from added side effects of their medication.

The clinic will be set up within the Brentwood Resource Centre, Geary Drive, Brentwood and will be provided by Mental Health Professionals based in the Brentwood Community Mental Health Team. There will be a minimum of three staff members running the clinic, including a Pharmacist.

The next clinic will be held on 6 June between 1pm and 4pm.
