SEPT Named NHS & Health Sector UK Green Champion

South Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (SEPT) has won a Green Apple Environment Award in the national campaign to find Britain’s greenest companies, councils and communities.

Beating all other healthcare organisations SEPT was named as the Green Apple Awards 2013 NHS & Health Sector UK Green Champion at a dazzling award ceremony at the House of Commons last week (11 November).

In April 2013 SEPT implemented a ‘green-switch’ on its stationery orders the only NHS Trust nationally to implement this approach. This means an automatic switch is being instigated across all of the Trust’s stationery orders, ensuring SEPT is buying the most sustainable/ low carbon product available.

As a result of this success they have been invited to have their winning paper published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can follow their example and learn from their experience.

They will also be considered to represent their country in the European Business Awards for the Environment.

SEPT Chief Executive Sally Morris said “I would like to congratulate the purchasing team for implementing this ground-breaking initiative, as not only will it significantly reduce our Carbon Footprint but it will also reduce the Trust’s stationery costs by over £37,000 per annum.”
