Service Information
Waiting times for ASD Assessments and ADHD Assessments and Treatment
We continue to experience unprecedented demand for all our neurodiversity services, which have inevitably created lengthy waiting lists for assessment and treatment.
All services are contacting people in date order from the time that they receive your referral. Due to multiple factors the time you will need to wait for an assessment or treatment can change frequently so we are unable to offer precise timescales. We are also trying to prioritise clinical time for assessments and treatment, and therefore are unable to respond to individual queries around wait times or place on the waiting list.
The services are doing their utmost to provide the most accessible and responsive service in these circumstances. We are in discussions with commissioners in an effort to address and reduce the waiting times being experienced. We are reviewing our procedures to see if there are any ways we can maintain the safe and appropriate quality services whilst focusing on potential efficiencies.
In this context, it is essential to ensure that what is offered is equitable and fair to all service users and therefore we are declining requests to prioritise or expedite referrals. All of our service users' needs are important and we remain committed to offering a good quality, timely service which remains in line with national NHS waiting times for neurodiversity services.
Right to Choose Pathway
If you are registered with a GP surgery in England and you are referred by a GP to a consultant or specialist in mental health, you have the legal right to choose the organisation (qualified provider) to whom you are referred, as long as that organisation is providing that service in another part of England. Therefore some NHS referrals are eligible for private provider assessments.
You will need to request a Right to Choose referral from your GP.
- There are some exclusions where a service user is:
- Already receiving mental health care following an elective referral for the same condition; or
- Referred to a service that is commissioned by a local authority, for example, a drug and alcohol service or
- Accessing urgent, crisis or emergency care; or
- Accessing services delivered through a primary care contract; or
- Serving as a member of the armed forces (family members in England have the same rights as other residents of England).
