International Week of Happiness at Work

Staff have been telling us what makes them proud to work for the NHS as we celebrate International Week of Happiness at Work (25 to 29 September).

Jean Duffell, a Diabetes Specialist Practitioner, said: “Having worked in the NHS since the age of 17 years, I'm proud to say there would have been no other chosen organisation which has enabled me to undertake training as a medical secretary, followed by PA to consultants in specialist areas, before finally going on to complete my childhood dream of training to become a registered nurse.

“The NHS is a unique environment, which has allowed me the privilege of caring and supporting those in greatest need whilst being able to work alongside brilliant colleagues over many years, where integrity and dedication is at the forefront in delivering high standards of care, regardless of who or how an individual has come to be in need.

“I am thankful to be fit and well and able to continue to work to provide the best of care after almost 50 years in the NHS, for a few more to come, knowing it will be a difficult day, when this ends.”

Community Nurse Stevie Millington said: “I am so proud to work for the NHS, the strong workforce and pulling together to support all patients in our care.”

Joanne Coverly, Development and Play Advisor at The Lighthouse Children's development Centre in Southend, said: “I love working for the NHS because we make a difference in people’s lives.

“My job allows me to help families to live their best lives and get enjoyment from their own families. I help the struggling to achieve what others take for granted.

“I can see I make a difference and the families see it too. When they see the blue NHS sign there is confidence in the skills arriving to help and I am part of those skills.

“The NHS provides a service many other countries are envious of and I am proud to say I do my bit to provide that level of support and care.”

Allied Health Professional Malgorzata Borowska, said: “I'm proud to be able to bring change, hope and smile to patient's life by helping them looking after their physical and mental health.

“Being able to influence others and see them smile and making next step is always something to be proud of.”
